Threat Level Scale

Threat Level:

Green – A few thunderstorms have the potential to become severe, with the main threats being winds to 60 mph and hail no larger than the size of quarters (or 1″ in diameter). No tornadoes are expected in a Threat Level Green.

Orange – A few thunderstorms will likely become severe, with the main threats being damaging winds 60-70 mph, hail to the size of golf balls, and a few weak tornadoes possible (EF-0 to EF-2).

Red – Many thunderstorms will likely become severe over a large area. In Threat Level Red the main threats are damaging winds in excess of 70 mph, hail to the size of softballs, and tornadoes (EF-0 to EF-4).

Black – Threat Level Black will only be issued when a significant tornado outbreak is expected. When I believe there is potential for at least 20 tornadoes to occur with at least two of these tornadoes being an EF-3 or greater, this will be considered a tornado outbreak.
