A strong area of low pressure is located off the coast of the Pacific Northwest and will remain there for the next several days. The counter-clockwise flow around this low is directing an abundance of moisture onshore over California and will continue to bring flooding rains to the coast and very heavy snow to the Sierra Nevada’s. The current snow level is approximately 6000 feet and will rise to near 7000 feet by tomorrow. Areas over 7000 feet will receive the heaviest snow and may see snowfall rates of 2-4 inches per hour during the heaviest snow. A large stretch of the Sierra Nevada’s will see 3-6 feet of snow by Sunday, and areas over 8000 feet will likely see 6-10 feet of snow. Below is a picture of a radar image taken at 10:05 PM EST.
